    Founder and Chairman, Real Endpoints

    Mr. Longman is recognized as an expert in biopharmaceutical strategy and reimbursement and often speaks at key industry events organized by important trade organizations, investment banks, venture capital firms, and leading biopharma companies. His most recent focus has been on new value-based approaches to paying for drugs and diagnostics, harnessing tools and systems for objective, transparent analysis of drug value and economic impact. He is developing these initiatives in collaboration with major biopharmaceutical, diagnostic, payer, and provider organizations.

    Mr. Longman has been involved with the health-care industry for more than 30 years. At his first venture, Windhover Information, he and his team created a number of industry-standard analytical sources, including must-read strategy publications such as IN VIVO and Start-Up, the strategic transactions database and a major conference business for senior executives. The business was acquired by Elsevier where for two years Longman ran the company’s pharmaceutical business information group.

    Mr. Longman lectures regularly at several leading universities and co-directed the Wharton-Windhover pharmaceutical program at The Wharton School. Mr. Longman completed his BA at Cornell University and MA at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, then taught for three years at the European division of the University of Maryland.

  • Mohammed AlQuraishi

    Assistant Professor in the Department of Systems Biology, Colombia Systems Biology

    Mohammed AlQuraishi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Systems Biology and a member of Columbia’s Program for Mathematical Genomics, where he works at the intersection of machine learning, biophysics, and systems biology. The AlQuraishi Lab focuses on two biological perspectives: the molecular and systems levels. On the molecular side, the lab develops machine learning models for predicting protein structure and function, protein-ligand interactions, and learned representations of proteins and proteomes. On the systems side, the lab applies these models in a proteome-wide fashion to investigate the organization, combinatorial logic, and computational paradigms of signal transduction networks, how these networks vary in human populations, and how they are dysregulated in human diseases, particularly cancer.

    Dr. AlQuraishi holds undergraduate degrees in biology, computer science, and mathematics. He earned an MS in statistics and a PhD in genetics from Stanford University. He subsequently joined the Systems Biology Department at Harvard Medical School as a Departmental Fellow and a Fellow in Systems Pharmacology, where he developed the first end-to-end differentiable model for learning protein structure from data. Prior to starting his academic career, Dr. AlQuraishi spent three years founding two startups in the mobile computing space. He joined the Columbia Faculty in 2020.

  • Lucas Nivon

    Chief Executive Officer, Cyrus Biotechnology Inc.

    Lucas is trained in computational biophysics and protein engineering. Prior to Cyrus he was a Translational Investigator & Senior Fellow at the Baker lab at UW, developing small-molecule binding proteins and protein design algorithms. Lucas is the founder of PedalAnywhere, an online-only bicycle rental company. Lucas’ scientific work includes a patented computationally designed enzyme, an RNA-dynamics-modeling software toolkit (built during his Ph.D. with Eugene Shakhnovich and Xiaowei Zhuang at Harvard), and algorithm optimization for automation of computational protein design.     Assistant Member, Department of Hematology, Co-chair, NIH Somatic Cell Genome Editing Consortium Steering Committee, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

    Dr. Tsai is an Assistant Member in the Department of Hematology at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. His lab’s research focuses on genome editing technologies for therapeutics, with a special interest in editing human HSCs for treatment of hemoglobinopathies such as sickle cell disease and T-cells for cancer immunotherapy. His group has recently developed CHANGE-seq, a state-of-the-art, sensitive, unbiased, high-throughput method for defining the genome-wide activity of genome editors. Previously, he has developed methods for high-throughput genome editing with TALENs, and for defining and improving the genome-wide specificity of CRISPR-Cas nucleases such as GUIDE-seq and CIRCLE-seq. Dr. Tsai completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital & Harvard Medical School, Ph.D. in Functional Genomics and M.S. in Bioinformatics from North Carolina State University, and B.S. from the University of Michigan.

  • Thomas U. Marron MD, PhD

    Professor of Medicine, Liver Diseases, Mount Sinai Beth Israel, The Mount Sinai Hospital

    Thomas Marron, MD, PhD, is the Director of the Early Phase Trials Unit (EPTU) at The Tisch Cancer Institute and Associate Professor of Medicine (Hematology and Medical Oncology) at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He is a Medical Oncologist, and holds a PhD in Immunology; his research focuses on development of cancer immunotherapies.

    EPTU focuses on Phase 1 and Phase 2 multi-histology clinical trials developing novel agents and combinations of new and old agents that are being tried across solid tumor types. Dr. Marron’s focus is on the immunotherapy space, with particular focus on novel immunomodulatory agents and cancer vaccine strategies.

    As a member of the Center for Thoracic Oncology, Dr. Marron treats thoracic malignancies, including non-small cell lung cancer, small cell lung cancer, and malignant pleural mesothelioma. He leads numerous industry-sponsored as well as investigator-initiated clinical trials for thoracic malignancies as well hepatocellular carcinoma (liver cancer).

    As a member of The Tisch Cancer Institute and the Precision Immunology Institute, Dr. Marron works closely with basic scientists across the Mount Sinai Health System, translating preclinical findings into clinical advances. He also leads The neoAdjuvant Research Group to Evaluate Therapeutics (TARGET) which is housed in EPTU and is a large cross-disciplinary collaborative translational research program focused on clinical trials for multiple types of cancer in which patients receive novel therapies prior to surgery. These neoadjuvant trials are often called “window-of-opportunity” trials given the brief nature of the pre-surgical intervention, and opportunity to learn a great deal about novel agent’s mechanisms of action in humans. The goal of these trials is to decrease the likelihood that cancer will return after surgery; in parallel, they support deep interrogation of the effect of new and standard therapies on the tumor immune microenvironment at the single-cell level. Further, the trials enable Dr. Marron and collaborators to define combination approaches that optimize response rates and the durability of novel immune-based therapies, while minimizing toxicity to patients.

    Dr. Szotek is a Board-Certified General Surgeon specializing in complex hernia repair. As Medical Director of the Indiana Hernia Center, Dr. Szotek has developed an innovative new web based multidisciplinary practice model with disruptive potential. On April 12, 2016, he performed the worlds first transcontinental live stream virtual reality hernia repair surgery from Putnam County Hospital in Greencastle, IN to Brisbane, Australia.     Dr. Bansal joined the faculty at Mount Sinai in 2001 after completing Gastroenterology Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. In 2002 she became the Transplant Hepatology Fellowship Director, leading one of the largest transplant hepatology fellowships in the United States. While remaining clinically active, she has also developed an NIH-funded basic research program focusing on understanding underlying molecular mechanisms of liver fibrosis/cirrhosis in an effort to develop novel anti-fibrotic therapies. Her current research interests focus on how HIV may promote hepatic inflammation and fibrosis as well as novel treatments for Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH). She became the Director of Translational Research in the Division of Liver Diseases in 2013 and is the principal investigator in a number of clinical trials for the treatment of Hepatitis C and NASH. Since 2015 she has also served as the Chief Medical Officer of Mount Sinai Care LLC and Deputy Chief Medical Officer for Mount Sinai Health Partners, the population health platform the entire Mount Sinai Health System. In this latter role, Dr. Bansal has the opportunity to translate findings from research/clinical trials to address population health needs in an ever-changing healthcare landscape.

  • Jordan J. Feld, MD MPH

    Professor of Medicine, University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada

    Dr. Feld trained in GI and Hepatology at the University of Toronto and did post-doctoral training in the Liver Diseases Branch at the National Institutes of Health in laboratory and clinical research in viral hepatitis. After completing a Masters in Public Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, he returned to Toronto. He is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto and holds the R. Phelan Chair in Translational Liver Research as a clinician-scientist at the Toronto Centre for Liver Disease in the Toronto General Hospital where he leads a large clinical and translational research program focused primarily on viral hepatitis and its complications.

    Timothy M. Block, Ph.D. (Biochemistry), M.B. (Hon), FAASLD (Hon.) is President and Co-founder of the Hepatitis B Foundation; its research arm, the Baruch S. Blumberg Institute; and the Pennsylvania Biotechnology Center. His work, with Baruch S Blumberg, The Pennsylvania Biotechnology Center, created with an unusual model in which it is managed by a non profit mission oriented research foundation, emphasizes “Academic Entrepreneurship” and has become one of the most successful life sciences incubators in the US, generating companies with collective peak values exceeding $2 billion, and generating therapeutics and medical devices that have been approved for use by the US and Chinese FDAs. With Anand Mehta and Raymond Dwek, Prof. Block pioneered the use of glycoproteomics for detection of biomarkers of liver cancer, leading to the use of Golph2/GP73 and core fucosylated serum proteins as risk stratifiers for liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma.. His work with Ying Su led to use of “microDNA” detected in the urine as a cancer marker. More recently, he and his colleagues (Ju-Tao Guo, Hai-Tao Guo, Andy Cuconati) have identified small molecule inhibitors of hepatitis B virus, which are in clinical phase human testing, today. He is scientific co-founder of several life sciences companies, co-inventor on 20 issued patents and 23 applications, has co-authored more than 290 scholarly papers, and was named a “Visionary in Hepatitis” by the World Hepatitis Alliance in 2017. He was elected (2017), US National Academy of Inventors, awarded an Med. Doctor., Honorary Causes (1999) and in 2020, He and his wife, Joan, received the Distinguished Public Service Award from the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) and in 2022 he was named an AASLD Fellow. He is Adjunct Professor at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine and the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.

    Ernie Garcia, III co-founded Carvana and has served as our President and Chief Executive Officer since our inception in 2012. Mr. Garcia is also Chairman of the Carvana Co. Board. Prior to founding Carvana, Mr. Garcia held various roles at the DriveTime Automotive Group, Inc. from January 2007 to January 2013. From January 2007 to December 2008, he served as a financial strategist. He was a managing director of corporate finance from December 2008 to November 2009.     Mr. Siebel is the founder of C3.ai and has served as the Chairman of the board of directors since January 2009, and as Chief Executive Officer since July 2011. Prior to founding the company, Mr. Siebel founded and served as the Chief Executive Officer of Siebel Systems, a global CRM software company, from 1993 until it merged with Oracle Corporation in January 2006. Mr. Siebel served in various leadership positions with Oracle Corporation from January 1984 to September 1990. Mr. Siebel currently serves as a member of the College of Engineering boards at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the University of California, Berkeley.     With over 20 years of international business and financial management experience, Kevin has a successful track record managing companies through growth and innovation with his extensive knowledge of both the public and private equity sectors.

    Kevin has served as our Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer since September 2016. He was also the Treasurer and Secretary of SIGOS LLC, an affiliate of Dynatrace, until July 2018. Prior to his role at Dynatrace, Kevin was the President, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer of iCAD Inc. (Nasdaq: ICAD) from April 2011 until September 2016. From April 2008 until May 2010, he was Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer of AMICAS, Inc. (Nasdaq: AMCS), and he was the Vice President of Finance and Corporate Development from November 2004 until March 2008.

    Kevin earned his Bachelor of Science and Master’s degrees from Babson College. Outside of work he enjoys spending time traveling with his family and coaching youth sports.

    Dr. Walmsley serves as General Partner of Logos Capital. Prior to Logos, Dr. Walmsley was a Principal and Manager of the crossover fund at Versant Ventures where he invested in biotechnology companies across multiple funds totaling over $1.5 billion in AUM.   • Dr. David Rizzieri, MD

    As a translational researcher, I have focused my efforts on developing new therapies for patients with leukemia or lymphoma. I am a member of the Combined International Bone Marrow Transplant Registry Lymphoma Writing Committee and the ALLIANCE (formerly CALGB) Leukemia Core Committee. I serve as chair or co-chair of multiple ALLIANCE lymphoma/ leukemia trials, the most recent being the last 2 national studies for Burkitt’s lymphoma, as well as the recent AML intergroup study. I have led our team’s novel approaches for the care of patients using non-myeloablative allogeneic therapy using haplo-identical, as well as matched donors. This work is currently being extended with post-transplant graft manipulation studies focused on manipulating Natural Killer cell activity. I have also led the first in human studies targeting acute myelogenous leukemia by linking diphtheria to a small molecule targeting the IL-3 receptor (now in phase 3). I serve on various NIH/NHLBI grant review committees and am a member of ASH, ASCO, AACR, ASBMT, ASCI, and the ASH sub-committee on Government Affairs. I oversee the development and conduct of all clinical trials in adults with hematologic malignancies conducted in the Duke Cancer Institute. In recognition of this leadership and success in our clinical research efforts, I was fortunate to receive the NIH ‘Clinical Investigator Team Leadership Award’ in 2010.

    Jordan Gauthier, MD, MSc, is an Assistant Professor at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (FHCRC and the University of Washington in Seattle, WA. Dr. Jordan Gauthier is developing and improving cellular immunotherapies for people with blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma. These therapies include blood stem cell transplantation and a genetically modified immune cell therapy called chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy (or CAR T-cell therapy).

    In addition to designing and conducting clinical trials, Dr. Gauthier builds innovative statistical and machine-learning models to predict patient outcomes on these therapies. Web applications and other new tools he develops will help doctors and patients understand and predict how well cellular therapy will work for them.

    Dr. Gauthier is also a hematologist-oncologist who cares for patients with blood cancers, especially those undergoing transplant or immunotherapy. He was the first physician to be awarded the FHCRC Immunotherapy Integrated Research Center Fellowship.

    Dr. Joleen Hubbard is an Associate Professor of Medical Oncology at Mayo Clinic, Rochester MN. She completed medical school and residency at the University of Minnesota and hematology/oncology fellowship at Mayo Clinic, Rochester MN. Dr. Hubbard specializes in the treatment of gastrointestinal cancers, focusing on colorectal cancer, which is her area of clinical research. Dr. Hubbard is the PI of multiple phase I, II, and III clinical trials investigating novel agents for gastrointestinal cancers. Her research interests also include geriatric oncology with a special interest in clinical and biologic markers of frailty.

    Dr. Hubbard is a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network Colon/Rectal/Anal Cancers and Senior Adult Oncology Panels. She serves as a member of the Cancer in the Gastrointestinal Cancers, Older Adult, Health Reported Outcomes, and Translational Research committees for the North American Alliance of Clinical Trials in Oncology Network.   • Dr. Howard West, M.D.

    Dr. West is an Associate Clinical Professor in Medical Oncology, a specialist in thoracic oncology, and serves as Executive Director of AccessHope remote consult services at City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center.

    Dr. West received an MPhil in Experimental Biology from Cambridge University on a Fulbright Scholarship and a medical degree (magna cum laude) from Harvard Medical School, where Dr. West also conducted research as a Howard Hughes Medical Student Fellow. His postdoctoral training included an internship and residency in internal medicine at the Harvard-affiliated Brigham and Women’s Hospital Boston, MA, followed by a fellowship in medical oncology at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center/University of Washington in Seattle, WA. In late, 2002, he moved to Swedish Cancer Institute in Seattle, where he served for over 16 years as Medical Director of the Thoracic Oncology Program, overseeing a broad array of clinical care and research responsibilities.

    In early 2019, he moved to Los Angeles area to dedicate his focus on innovative approaches to delivering sub-specialist expertise across a broader geography, using tools such as remote case reviews as a clinical leader of the new enterprise from City of Hope, known as AccessHope.

    He has authored dozens of papers and chairs several CME programs and symposia internationally on thoracic oncology, novel educational approaches, and social media in cancer care. In addition to these activities, he is the Founder & President of Global Resource for Advancing Cancer Education (GRACE); Web Editor for JAMA Oncology; regular correspondent for Medscape; and contributing author and section editor in Lung Cancer for UpToDate.

    We are increasingly dependent on technology to move ourselves around and interact with our environment, and we ingest enormous amounts of visual data as part of the process. How we acquire visual data and how we put it to use are tough problems that require innovative solutions.
